Gail Goodman is a partner and founding member of Southwestern Medical Associates.
She received her BA in Anthropology from University at Buffalo in 1986 and her MD from Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in 1991. Her residency in pediatrics was completed at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and she has made the Buffalo area her home ever since.
Dr. Goodman spent the first seven years of her career as a primary care physician and teacher at Jesse Nash and Towne Garden Clinics on Buffalo’s East side, where she won several teaching awards. In 2000, after the birth of her son, she decided to move into private practice. She joined Drs. Vakante on what would be a very successful and unique practice in WNY. She is now proudly well into her “second generation” of patients at SWMA.
Dr. Goodman and her family live in Orchard Park, and she loves running into her patients at Wegmans or Chestnut Ridge! She is an avid gardener, loves to cook for family and friends, loves to read, and keeps tearing up all those AARP cards they insist on sending her!
Diana Vakante-Jankovic, M.D.
Family Practice Physician
Dr. Vakante-Jankovic is a partner and founding member of Southwestern Medical Associates. She is a board certified family physician. Originally from beautiful Croatia, she received her medical degree from The University of Zagreb. She then completed her residency in Family Practice at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
Dr. Vakante is affiliated with South Buffalo Mercy Hospital and has special interests in women’s health issues, preventive medicine, and diabetes care.
She and her family enjoy spending time outdoors and cooking together. Please note that Dr. Vakante-Jankovic is not currently accepting new patients at this time, but give us a call so that we can schedule you with another provider. We look forward to seeing you in the office.
Lauren Steinmetz, M.D.
Family Medicine Physician
Lauren Steinmetz was born and raised in Angola, NY and couldn’t wait to get back to the Southtowns to practice medicine. She completed all of her schooling at UB, starting with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and then went on to UB Medical School. She then completed her family medicine residency at UB’s Millard Fillmore Suburban site in June, 2017.
Lauren currently lives in Boston, NY with her husband and her daughter. She enjoys being outside to enjoy all of the seasons WNY offers, snowboarding in the winter and running in the summer.
Betsey Dechert-Boss, FNP
Family Nurse Practitioner
Betsey joined SWMA in 2008. She has worked as a certified nurse practitioner and diabetes educator for over 20 years. A graduate of SUNY Brockport in nursing, Betsey received her Masters Degree from University of Rochester, and she has worked and taught in various primary care and diabetes education roles. Before joining SWMA, she was employed at Health Care Plan and Lifetime Health as a nurse practitioner. In this role, she also coordinated the ADA accredited Diabetes Education Program at Univera Health, and performed diabetes group visits at Lifetime Health. Prior to this Betsey worked as a surgical and pediatric nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Betsey and her husband Ken have a daughter and 2 sons. She spends most of her time outside of work playing tennis, gardening, or watching her children at various sporting events.
Alyse Sireika, DO
Family Practice - Accepting new patients!
Dr. Alyse Sireika is a Buffalo native who grew up in West Seneca. Dr. Sireika attended Canisius College where she competed on the Division I swim team and received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She left Buffalo to attend medical school in Erie PA, at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. There she received her Doctorate degree. Dr. Sireika completed her residency in Family Medicine at Sisters of Charity Hospital through University at Buffalo.
Dr. Sireika lives in Orchard Park with her husband Zach, their one-year-old son, Logan, their dogs, Ruby and Moose and their cat, Yoshi.
In her free time, she enjoys camping, hiking, reading, skiing, walking her dogs and spending time with her family.
Marie Mastrangelo, ANP
Marie is a board certified adult-gerontological nurse practitioner. She graduated from Daemen University in Buffalo, NY where she currently serves as part time faculty for the nurse practitioner program. Outside of the office, Marie enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and two dogs, Sammy and Oscar. She loves all things Disney and is a proud Buffalonian!
